Instead we should introduce "green" taxes whereby anything imported from over so many thousand miles is taxed to the hilt. It is ridiculous that shellfish caught in Scotland are exported to China to be cleaned and then transported back to the UK.

There is no comparative advantage where China is concerned and they are not in the least bit interested in fairly trading with anyone. Indeed they cannot fairly trade because their economy is based on the exploitation of 800million slaves.

In answer to the question, Gordon Brown is sucking up to China because he has borrowed so much money from them that they know full well we cannot possibly ever repay them so he must suck up. He has reduced us to their effective slaves, or at least Gordon is the servant of China.
