FTSE 5500 plus by year end. Plus Radio Control News.

Still the wavering continues on the FTSE as the idiot Investors daily balance greed and fear. No problem. Anyway on the radio control front the Cessna 182 Float plane takes shape. Scratchbuilding the floats now - quite a job they are very intricate, step, etc. Test run the awesome outrunner brushless too, rather overkill (verticals later?) at 23 oz thrust!!! ESC is hugely complex also to program. The sound but well used C182 airframe is being tidied too. Considering a gyro as this plane needs to be stable later as a video cam platform. Will a gyro prevent flared landings though? No rush - its for next season. More later ...

Louis 'apparently not so supers'
So far you've amended your umeployment peak from 2.5 m to 3m (following my lead of 3.2m). So u can no longer comment on that point.
You have missed you end of Oct prediction for the FTSE.
You drew a line in the sand and you will be measured on it.
So far you are 0-2
You have been MEASURED, WEIGHED AND FOUND WANTING!

Of course the Dubai problem will affect the FTSE due to Bank exposure. It is clear now many large developments especially Middle East are now stalled. If these default of course there is a large effect. Over the long term of course they are just one more default.
Seaplane going well, now building floats.

Cannot do Sim. And how can you mention the word "toys" !!! This is serious stuff - on boats I recently bought a mid 1930s 36R r/c converted (ex A36R Braine Vane) sail boat. Those who sail these have to know as much about sailing theory as real sailors. And without models where would the military "drones" used in Pakistan etc. come from? And with sailboats it was models which propelled massive developments of the full size. My predictions are never wrong ...

Big rises on the FTSE today. Lots of input from Hedgies and Day Traders last week trying to make an easy buck. There seems often to be a 1330 Shorting exercise, its difficult to know if that is co-ordinated. HST and Dark Pools are of course working well (for them) and distorting the Market. Watch to see if the 1330 escapades return this week.

Louis when the FTSE drops into the red u either disappear or say it's normal fluctuation. When it takes a little jump u bleat on about it as if it's doing so due your efforts!
I think u wouldn't get so much stick, when ur predictions are incorrect if u showed some humility in the interim!

On line for 5500. FTSE is testing new highs on a round a month cycles. As its around 200 to 300 average peak to trough we should hit 5500 before Dec 31.
Floats going well. Like the new real world light aircraft UK Recreational Pilots License. Far less costly than PPL and more like car driver training. Of course in the US Ultralights under 350 lbs are License free. That includes light helis like the Mosquito. And single seat aircraft - if learning - really exercise the mind - no Instructor - its up to you! Are you brave enough to learn - whilst necessarily solo?

Good on you Alex but RBS are for the long view - not short term. At the point RBS pays off UK Government (with considerable profit) undilution will mean 200p plus. With their, as are most Toxics ramping up in value RBS will go on to their pre crash 331p and beyond. A good buy. Watch Oil as the next Crisis looms too.

Dont think its a rally Tyler. Its a reflection of recession abating. It is made more complicated as there is m$%^& of private and Hedgies shorting. And some cabal creating events like the 1330 episodes. As to last how does one get to know when a pre arranged mass shorting "1330" is going to occur?

Partly driven by Dow??? C'mon as far as I can see the FTSE is entirely influenced by Dow. I can't see the point of having an independant SE really.Anyway, 5500 by year end is starting to look a tad optimistic.

More green today. Note these gyrations caused by massive private and Corporate shorting almost daily masking the trend rise. There is of course in a turbulent market lots of scope for profit. Avoid Gold - it will later crash spectaculatily.

FTSE touches 5300 twice today ... Big problem later is Inflation created by removal of VAT subsidy, ramping Oil prices, and heavy further energy price rises. And the continuing effect of QE - which no one will dare to stop. This is likely to ramp up Bank Rate to more than 3 percent, and move all loans, and variable mortgages up the same amount or more. These price rises in turn will create industrial action in the Public Sector whose wages will have by then been frozen by the Tories. Interesting?

It is interesting to look at elements of the Recession so far. Recessive effects are mainly caused by lack of demand. Consumers do not buy and worse do not borrow for a whole mass of reasons. However it is apparent they do not seem much affected (ie will survive). This suggests very many consumer purchases even on credit are things they do not actually need (ie are only for vanity or image) This especially true of new cars of course. Its a strange society. Needs are often un-needed. But if those same items and services are not sold, that society is in deep trouble. One often wonders how those starving in Sudan etc. would see such a society?

Footsie 100 and S&P 500 are presently fighting the battle of the year, which is probably the most important resistance line since the big slide in 2007.
If it does touch 5500 it probably won't last long before the slide continues once more and thats still the current trend for the foreseeable future, until this support line has been crossed it would be wise to invest safely.
If stocks do sell off I'm looking for an entry point between 2000-2500 as this was my last known estimate on a bottom for the FTSE100 that I can remember.
Currently holding approx 60/40 stocks & cash respectively, looking for further exit points building up a cash reserve for what I expect to be the coming.
Everybody has a dream... whats yours?

Sorry its 5500 end year, 6500 end 2010. This business of the Government wanting everyone to drive 5 miles less a week ... same Government that introduced Scappage - slightly less polluting fossil cars for s$%^&ping not so old polluting fossil cars. Of course the carbon cost of building a new car totally outstrips any pollution saving over the new cars` life.....
Anyway that 5 miles driven less. Using fuel which is 82 percent (composite) Tax as you pop it in. Drive my ZERO FUEL COST car and you produce no pollution at all - neither does the production of the fuel (electricity) it uses - and you get 15 to 35 percent of your house electricity free too - and no Road Tax at all. You can laugh at Oil Crises. Rustless too - no rust ever. And - YOU can drive 5 miles MORE - 10 miles MORE - anything MORE a week. No pollution at all in doing so ... .....

Fascinating to return to the UK and this thread after 3 weeks to find how many more pages have been added and how little further the market has progressed.
Fascinating, too, to see market volumes here and in the US continuing to plunge on "up" days, and soar on "down" days.
What does this tell me? The big boys are selling, the little boys are buying. With the FTSE up at the moment after a big up day on Friday, seems like a good time to move the rest of my cash into inverse ETFs. Specifically, the DB X-Trackers DJ Stoxx 600 Banks Short ETF. I'm also expanding my stop-loss on these from 10% to 25%, just in case the markets manage one more high before Christmas.
The higher this market creeps on ever-declining volume, the bigger, faster and scarier the eventual crash will be.
Louis continues to see inflation when - at least in the short term - the deflationary forces are building as debt defaults accelerate and de-leveraging far exceeds government injections of paper money.
The bull-twits can continue giving Louis' inane ramblings 3-star ratings. We cautious ones can see the volcano continuing to rumble and smoke and steam beginning to appear at the summit!

Louis,
Yes it is fun to see them. Chris seems particularly good sport, could he be the same guy that wrote: “On my rare visits to this board, I try to raise the tone a little above the childish name calling”?
Or this:
“This is the last time I will ever respond to you, Louis.”
Wonderful.
And while he lacks the self awareness to notice the tongue-in-cheekiness of your own prediction, he has added his own with all the pomposity of those who are overly fond of first person pronouns.
“I am now issuing a similar warning: On Friday 21st August 2009, this junk rally, this "dash for trash" entered its final phase. When will it end? Certainly within months, probably within weeks, possibly within days.”
And has continually repeated this warning, citing his own superior knowledge due to careful analysis of all sorts, from a falling Baltic Dry index, and Shanghai index to magic numbers and then promptly ignored them when they change direction.
Best of all, (and worthy of repetition is this one) where he got as far as suggesting that if “DJI breaks through the 10,000 barrier, then sensible bears need to swallow their pride and acknowledge that this is indeed a new bull market.”
And when the Dow went past 10000 he ignored his own advice too and here he is again insulting you
Ah makes me nostalgic, wonder what ever happened to Pival?

Yes all agreed James. There are those on here who have not got a clue how Markets work. There are also those, as with Gold, who are taking huge risks. This is not a full bull market this is a weak bullish market hence the ups and downs, and the severe effects of say the Dubai affair. However some of this individuals scare one a lot and worse could influence others to do very unwise things ...

You really are a one-man cautionary tale for the information age, James. You demonstrate how it is possible to surround yourself with information and still remain profoundly ignorant. You speed-read everything with eyes wide open and brain tightly shut. And your "research" consists of frantically Googling a topic or an individual until you find a source - however obscure and/or discredited - which supports your particularly narrow-minded point of view.
When I write that I can see a number of possible future directions for stockmarkets, you say that I am confused. When I say that I am considering a number of competing views on the nature of this economic "recovery", you say that I am gullible.
One of the classic definitions of intelligence is the ability to hold several competing ideas in one's head and resolve the conflict by assigning different levels of probability to each. By that definition, your mentor Louis is profoundly unintelligent, since he can only conceive of one possibility - that this is a new bull market. Interestingly, though, he announced today that it is not, after all, a bull market but a "bullish" market. "$%^&" seems a rather more apt description.
I think you have finally found your metier in life, James: to play Sancho Panza to Louis' Don Quixote.

You have got so used to selectively misquoting various sources, James, that you actually think you can get away with misquoting my post of October 10, when the post is still there for all to see.
What I actually wrote was: "If Shanghai powers to new highs and the DJI breaks through the 10,000 barrier, then sensible bears need to swallow their pride and acknowledge that this is indeed a new bull market".
I realise that this may be a bit too subtle for you, James, but that's called a conditional sentence: IF the first part is fulfilled AND the second part is fulfilled THEN......
The first part of my condition has NOT been fulfilled (Shanghai is NOT at new highs) and the second part has been fulfilled in a qualified fashion (the DJI has gone over 10,000, but on pathetically low volume, and with the directors' share sales:purchase ratio rising from a worrying 13:1 to an alarming 17:1) THEREFORE I am still not calling this a new bull market.
Unlike you and Louis, I am monitoring a number of metrics in a number of markets and I am willing to change my mind when I find compelling evidence to tell me that this is not just the "huge bear market rally" I talked about occurring in Year 2 of the bear market in my post of 22nd May 2008.
That compelling evidence is not present. What is present is a lot of evidence that distribution is taking place: i.e. shares are moving from strong hands to weak hands. What is also present is a lot of evidence that former rally leaders (e.g. Louis' only known share: RBS) are heading south whilst the overall market heads north.
I realise that this may be difficult or even painful for you, James, but open your mind to some information which conflicts with what you so rigidly believe. You might actually find that you gain the wisdom to match your eloquence.

One philosphical aspect of recent events is - where did the money go?
Well by end 2010 the FTSE will be 6500 - the entry point prior to recession in 2007. HPs will be approaching 2007 values. So things for those will be as pre recession. But ... unemployment by then falling slowly will be 2.5 million. (1.5 million due to recession) and National Debt will be approaching £1 Trillion. So that amount less the 2007 debt PLUS all the money lost on shares RBS, etc due to the crash represents the money lost to the "Alchemy " of Mortgage Based Derivatives, money lost nominally by "main chance" spivvy Bankers and Californian Mortgage Brokers. These instruments being described by Gordon Brown as "the ingenuity of the Market". The Brokers have gone off to some new dodgy scam, the chancer Bankers retired on say £13000 a week. So the books balance, there are winners, there are losers (basically the unemployed) everyone else come end of 2010 is ... the same ....
