A family of former asylum seekers have been housed in a £1.8million home costing the taxpayer £1,600 every week, it was revealed today.
Nasra Warsame, from Somalia, her seven children and her mother moved into the luxury six-bed property in central London last month.
The five-storey house has three sitting rooms, a flat-screen television, four bathrooms and is within walking distance of the West End.'

Haha I love these stories.

Labour - the party of the working man, the poor.

This government couldnt have mugged you off more if theyd given you a slap, nicked your wallet and bent your missus over.

Todlem,

I read this story earlier today and it is a ridiculous situation. Very sad waste of public money - the rent doubled when the council started paying.

To be fair the guy is now a UK citizen having lived here for years, this is really about waste of resources and dependency culture. How could this guy work and live there?

Just goes to show how bad public spending is - how many people pay taxes just to home this family? It shows how easy it is to spend other people's money. Certainly not a sustainable position for the country if it is repeated elsewhere and I think it is albeit to a lesser degree.

Government encourages waste. We need much smaller government and much less government spending.

There just has to be a change in our society.

There is a shortage of rental properties in the area. What's a council to do? Ship them to a neighbouring council?

If they started doing that, they'd never stop.

Put them in a local hotel? How much would that cost? It happens frequently, and costs more.

At least with them being foregin they will have a degree of hope and ambition. Ending up in a luxury home will get them used to the idea of striving for success.

I'd be more worried if this place had gone to a white family of typical london s$%^& ...

Best of all is that it annoys daily mail readers/ racists.

Ha ha ha.

$%^&s.

The fault cannot be attributed to asylum seekers omly to successive lousy Governments.
In my rural haven surrounded by rich upcountry retirees, a similar situation pertains.
The Coucils at alll Officer evels are dominated by incomers. Affordable Housing for locals is non existent, because it MUST all be built by developers. Meanwhile tractors are parked outside houses in town and bring the GFWs to work on local farms.
It is crazy!!. Average age of a farmer is 60 years and rising.
Modern just in time storekeeping leaves the country about nine meals away from anarchy.
I am so glad to see that there are no more doomers on this site, however I prefer them to all this religious nonsense, which has not got a very good track record.

What we need is a bit more religious hatred to thin out the population a bit .
You see, fairy stories can be useful.

Head in the sand?

You have your head up your $%^&.

If you want to do something about immigration in your area, why not start doing evening work teaching English? That might actually help, mightn't it?

You will have to speak to brown people, but at least you can talk down to them.

Ha ha ha!!!!

Just what has colour go to do with it? and kindly explain how teaching English is going to aliviate the problem of Excessive population growth?

As an alternative you could offer your services; as a clown!!

Declan,

"There is a shortage of rental properties in the area. What's a council to do? Ship them to a neighbouring council? "

...and you think that this is the best solution that they could come up with? If it is then it shows how bad govt and social housing has become. C'mon this isn't a realistic solution, perhaps the easiest in the cir$%^&tances but this family had a house it just wasn't big enough according to what somebody says is their right - can all council tenants get bigger houses irrespective of cost when it suits? - can somebody in work without enough income? - not a chance its unaffordable but current govt thinking ignores that, it wastes money in social schemes while cutting in education and health - the really important areas.

£1600/wk or £83200/year - hotels cost more, really? I'll have to stop using hotels then.

This isn't about race it's about sensible solutions and this sort of housing cost isn't sensible or sustainable - or is it? Realistically? Is this affordable? There might have to be social reform for what people on welfare can expect or are their rights sovereign? Human rights, oh of course!! Otherwise why should those with large families struggle in jobs to provide for them when the state will do it? That's the real issue.

You yourself have said that people who can't afford to buy a house should rent, should people who can't afford to rent then just put up with a smaller house? Or do the unemployed with ever more kids just be given ever bigger houses?

This is the sort of story that fuels racism because it's patently unfair on hard working families and the lucky tenant happens to be originally foreign - do you really find that funny? - I don't ffs the racists have made enough gains as it is from disaffected non racists voting bnp....yes I know you were just goading but this is serious imo.
